Artist Statement

The beauty and mystery of the Great Smoky Mountains caught my attention at a very young age. There is in nature, something elusive and enigmatic in which, though open for all to see, implies a different reality.

I always wanted to somehow catch it and find out why it filled me with so much wonder. My commitment to that quest came some years ago with a move to western Colorado.

Primarily a landscape artist, I work both en plein air and in the studio often using on the spot studies to aid my studio work. Painting en plein air supplies the perfect excuse to immerse myself in the ineffable and ever constant challenge to capture the sense of a place.
